This week I met with my mentor and we began going over some of the specifics of how I'd be using Statistics in my research. This is definitely the most challenging part of this experience for me. Studying the diseases, their symptoms, causes, treatments, and recurrence rates came much easier than trying to take the theoretical plunge into math land. After a brief intro to the subject we headed over to meet with Dr. A., who has a PHD in biostatistics and has been tasked by my mentor with teaching me more in depth. By the end of our conversation I was assigned reading in Charlie Wheelan's Naked Statistics and also to perform some statistical analysis of some of the data that he would send my way as a sort of warm up. Needless to say this was a bit of an overwhelming experience, however I'm not discouraged, I like a challenge.
